I’m Hazel Joy and I’m an Irish travel blogger whose personal interests, namely arts, culture, sport and history influence the content on this site.
With an undergraduate degree in Medical Microbiology and a postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education leading to biology teaching my qualifications are not the natural route to the blogging world. Lack of opportunity in the education sector led to work in the semi-state and private sectors where I honed my IT skills.
Living in a sun-starved country like Ireland is a huge motivation for travel so Arrivals Hall developed from the natural convergence of Vitamin D requirements with the desire to write about the essence of a destination. I also blog about the best place in the world to live and visit (i.e. my home county of Kerry).
My blogging philosophy is to inspire, educate and entertain. As I explained in my What is a travel blog piece I consider myself an observer bearing witness to places, people and their stories, and subsequently curating that experience. The majority of posts on Arrivals Hall are written from the perspective of a solo female traveller… until such time my partner gets a job compatible with my travel schedule!
My favourite book is the World Atlas.
The most important thing about Arrivals Hall? You, the readers, who devote your precious time to reading my observations, so thank you for visiting this site.
Print & Broadcast Media: Arrivals Hall got a mention in this Irish Times article. I’ve appeared on Radio Kerry’s TalkAbout show for a piece on travel blogging in general and offering advice on how not to get ripped off abroad.
